Mobile Phone History

Ok, so I know i haven't posted in a long time, and I will update properly post-exams. However, for now, I'm just going to follow Mike and Si's lead by listing my mobile phone history.

Started off with a Nokia 3310 - An absolute classic. It still worked perfectly when i traded it in a few years later for my Nokia 6100. Which, incidentally also still works like it was bought yesterday. Here ends the brand loyalty though. From there, I moved on to the very stylish Samsung D900. I still have this phone, and if i get a good offer for it, it is most definitely up for sale. It's still in top condition, 1 year old. I only replaced it because my contract ran out and I fancied a change. That change happened to be the Sony Ericsson K850i. Main reason for buying this phone: it has an amazing camera on it (and all the other bells and whistles they come with these days).
That's 4 phones in about 6-7 years, but the latest one is only a month old.

Big time update

so i realise i haven't posted here in quite a while, because frankly most of you keep up via facebook. Anyways, here is a summary of the last few months

Exams went ok, scraped through with a 2:2, so hoping to improve on that this year.

Summer: Did 2 months work in London, ridiculously early mornings but didn't finish too late, and got a fair bit of bunce for it too.

First few weeks of term were absolutely crazy, in the computer labs 9-5 (at least) every day. Handed that project report in last friday, so now i can concentrate on all the other coursework we've got.

3 weeks ago we had the Athletic Union SCORE night in Syndicate nightclub. Ended up taking a walk of shame in the morning. That relationship is now over, less that 3 weeks after it began, a new (shortest) record for me!

Capoeira training has been going well this term, going 2-3 times a week, though i did mess my neck up today :S. Hoping to get my blue-brown belt at our batizado in 3 weeks time.

I shall try and be more regular with these posts as i realise i can't possible remember everything I did from the last ~5 months :P

Timetables

Our university has rearranged everyones exam timetables in an attempt to make the exams more convenient and spaced out than the provisional timetable was. However, all my 7 exam now take place in a shorter space of time ?:-/. Also, 5 of these 7 exams are in far flung areas of the city, which i will have to spend about an hour walking to (or even possibly getting a train)! It's not just our department where things have got worse either. Oh well, at least i will now finish exams on the 7th june, more time for partying (though less time for that crucial revision). Going back to uni tomorrow (friday).

In other areas of my life, thanks everyone who turned up for birthday celebrations last week, was much fun, and there are some quality pictures to go with it.

Easter wasn't bad, ate faaaaar too much chocolate, but hey, that's what it's there for, kudos for anyone who actually did the whole lent thing (and kept to it)!

However, on the injury front, been carrying a shoulder injury (one of the tendons is inflamed i believe) for over a month now, lets hope it goes soon, and in the last week, I've picked up another wry neck, it's getting annoying how frequently i've got that this year (and it's also annoying how painful it is :-P ).

well, apparently now the time has come where i HAVE to move over to this google/blogspot thing, so i have.
i've also been politely nudged into writing in here thanks to mikes latest entry =P
hmm, wondering whether i have anything meaningful to write, here goes.

just had reading week, in which i managed to do absolutely NO learning, basically, so that wasn't so good! =S
did go home for the weekend though, that was nice, though would rather forget the travelling fiasco in both directions, cabs, trains, delays, cancellations, buses = grr

do have a new house sorted out for next year though, it's a pretty sweet pad, much better than this year, and cheaper, and nearer uni!

went to a fancy dress house party the other day, rather amusing, all the hostesses dressed up as chav-tastic McDonald's employees =)

2007 So Far

This is my first post this year, so i suppose it better be a good'un.

Well, uni has been hectic for the last couple of weeks, had an end of module exam on saturday morning (never have to do geology again, though it can be quite interesting), followed by a centurian (100 shots of beer in 100mins (check facebook)).

Seems like we're moving out in july, so we have to find a new pad, bit of extra effort, but maybe we can find somewhere that isn't at the bottom of a huge hill for next year!

On the job front, seems like i'm sorted for the holidays, valuable experience/money should be earned. =)

Still going out with Pippa, bit of a strange relationship tbh, but still going nevertheless.

Well, here's the end of 2006, it's been a pretty intense year. Having passed first year and continued into my second year at uni, the work has really start to pile up. So much so that I've barely been able to get out more than once a fortnight on average! (and I'm still behind with work!)

Haven't had too much to report from the last couple of months, still going out with Pippa, though with all the work, it didn't really seem like it.

Had a job interview just before Christmas, should hopefully get a job with a local eng. contracting firm, that could lead to good things (i.e. monies =D ), will let you know what happens when I'm told.

Chrimbo has been good to catch up with old mates, and frankly, I had to get out of the pressurised uni environment for a couple of weeks, to relax.

On the recreational side, capoeira has been going really well, got my blue belt during our winter festival and I could feel myself getting fitter week by week, especially the week I did 12hrs training (many aching muscles)!

Well, who know's what 2007 holds in store, but let's hope it's a good year.

recipe for a good night out

So, I finally proved it, it's possible to have an awesome, sober, night out on a mere £2.
Recipe:
2x pint of beer at £1/pint in a bar
1x oceana nightclub, free vip entry.
1x single bloke
1x single girl
start off with the beer, then mix in all the rest of the ingredients together, with liberal helpings of music, add a dash of snarky comments from friends and let simmer for 2-3hours, voila ;)
Side-effects include lack of sleep, generally leading to dozing through maths lectures.

Essays

So when I decided to read engineering, part of that was because I DON'T LIKE ESSAYS, so why do i find myself with 3-4 essays for a weeks time, it's not fair I tell ye.

Dunno why I'm still up, writing this, because I have 9am (as always) -6pm lectures tmr, followed by capoeira training at 7pm, I could probably do with some rest :P
One the same lines, a miracle cure to falling asleep in lectures is to actually go to bed before midnight (assuming 9am lecture start).

Played in a (very cold and wet) hockey tourney on sunday, we kinda lost, badly :S Still good fun though, maybe we'll do better next time

New Term

So, i've had just over a week of 2nd year lectures. New record, fell asleep in only my second lecture of the term). My timetable this year is disguisting, thursdays being the worst, when i have 9am-6pm lectures with one hour off for lunch!!
We do at least start this year like we started last year, building a model building and then destroying it :) and i also only live 20mins from uni this year, as opposed to the 30mins last year.

On the social scene, i joined the capoeira (it's a martial art) society this year, had my first training sesh on saturday and i was still aching a bit today :O, awesome fun though. Getting back into the tennis as well, haven't played for ages so was a bit rusty last week, oh well, i'm sure it'll improve.

I write in this blog so rarely, i'd be surprised if anyone actually still reads it (gotta thank RSS if anyone does still read it, i suppose), nevertheless, i shall try to improve on this front, assuming i have things to write about.

So, seeing and everybody else seems to have updated their blog after months, I thought I'd put in an update, after merely 2 months.
Well, my life recently....
Passed my exams with 62% (22% above pass mark, woo)
I've watched an awful lot of tv series, spent 3 months searching for a job, finally get one for the last 3 weeks i'm back home, go callcentres!! (sarcasm there)
Went on holiday, caught some waves (and a slight tan) in cornwall =)
I would put more stuff here, but nothing's really happened. Well, obviously other things have happened, but i cant remember them now and i should be off to bed, as i have work tomorrow. I shall update more in bristol, as it's a more interesting place!

Mega Post

Ok, here is the 'catch-up' post i promised, starting from about 2 months ago, here goes....
So, the house is all sorted out for next year, just need to get the keys and get the monies sorted out.

I also forgot to mention about the CivEngs' trip to sunny (irony) Lyme Regis on a surveying course. Surveying usually neccessitates reasonably clear conditions, which we didnt have. This meant that our lectures were saying things like, 'now over the other side of the valley, you should be able to see several control stations', but we couldnt even see the ground 20 yards in front of us, let along a small red pole stuck in the ground 400meters away!!
Apparently i seemed to be becoming a bit unhinged that week, i didnt notice it though, tom said he could see a manic glint in my eyes and i also, apparently, developed an unsettling grin and laugh=S. The grand finale of this coming with me doing virtually an all-nighter desperately trying to finish the final piece of work. My group of 3 was reduced to 1.5 for most of the week, one of them nearly dying, the other with a swollen foot!

Anyways....
Exam period: commenced with a 3hr maths paper on the monday after the end of lectures, horrible, horrible exam. Chilled out/revised frantically for the next exams in the 8 day gap. Then had the remainer of my exams (5 of them) in an 8 day period. Fluids was a nightmare of an exam, and lets just say i'm glad i never have to do thermodynamics again!!
After each exam we went to the pub, had a meal with the rest of the CivEng group.
Found out on friday that i'd passed my exams, i have no idea about my grades, as yet. Should get them wednesdayish - tune in then.
A couple of weeks before end of term i snapped the strings on my tennis racket, and didnt have my old racket at uni, so that rather spoiled that till the end of term.

All else i can say about exam periods, is that i nearly went crazy with boredom, literally crazy, like i was in Lyme Regis, i hardly left my block for 3 weeks solid except for exams and getting breakfast at the shop down t'road. Drinking was rather put on hold during exams (except a pint to chill out after an exam), so by the end of exams, everyone was lightweight, cue much amusement. =P

So i finished exams on tuesday 6th, queue much drinking. partying (and watching of 24 as most of my friends hadnt finished).
Wednesday was supposed to be a boardies/bikinis foam party at Baja Nightclub, with the biggest foam cannon in europe (from Amnesia in Ibiza). However, during testing, whenever the cannon was turned on, the lights and music went off and the fire alarms were set off, forcing evacuation. There was, therefore, no foam, better luck next time, eh. Mr Wedge (wedgies evenings wednesday and friday at Baja) isn't going to live that one down for a while!
We do continue....

So, i can't remember when, but at some point during the term, the vets had a barn dance, in a real barn, and hog-roast. I know you're thinking, eugh, barn-dance, wtf. But this one was basically just a huge piss-up. A couple of disturbing things happened that night, which i don't feel i should divulge here (ie ask me), because they are jsut plain WRONG.

Came home last weekend for about 4 days, chilled out, then went back to bristol for another week of partying. The VetSci students (which many of my friends are) finished their exams last tuesday/wednesday, and they REALLY know how to party. As such, that wednesday saw the spectacle that is the vets' alphabet pub crawl (24 (not 26) bars and a club), starting at 11am, finishing around 3am. Not sure what my total beer count was, but that was a heavy night, i tell thee.
Thursday was our last night in halls, so we just chilled out and watch a film
At last, free from Churchill Hall 'food', next up, homecooked food for 3 months then any cullinary delights me and my housemates can concoct.
Since i've been back, obviously seen all/most of the old gang including shock-horror, chuckie. Big shout out to ya mate, good to see you, fellow builder of bridges, nice one.

Just saw x-men 3, at last. Never though i'd see frasier throwing someone, =)
Congrats to all Upper 6th who've just finished/are finishing exams, pity its another couple of months to results =P
During this happy holiday, i am looking, currently fruitlessly, for a job for the vacation (and i dont think im the only one either).

Thats me all up-to-date. If i think of anything later, i'll put it in a seperate blog, especially as i've now been writing this for quite a while.

well, today was end of exams for the civil engineers. i promised a fill update when id finished, but im currentl too blattered to actually do that, so mayyvbe in a day or two =)
havent been drinking in a month or so, so this evening eas a bit of a shock to the system, all good though (must've been if i didnt get in before 4am!!)
going back to snalbenz on monday/tuesdayish, so maybe see pepole then =)
so good to end exams, i can just bee stupid for the next four months before i have to learn stuff again.

We found a house today, and decided to take it and we already had a full compliment of housemates, unlike some :P. Signing of contracts etc. is to happen next week :D. It's a really nice house, with double beds in most rooms (inc. mine) . Prices in bristol are ridiculously expensive, but there you go, everyone here is in the same boat. <20mins walk from university, could be a lot worse!

This is the second night in a row where i havent got to bed before 5am, and it will probably be 6am like yesterday by the time i get to sleep, it's absurd, as the title suggests. Still, just had an amazing EngSci ball, absolutely whikid fun, and it was snowing when we left, in MARCH. I mean, what a ridiculus time to be snowing, oh well. Does anyone else have the serious chronic sleeping through alarm clocks syndrome. Given that breakfast is bought and paid for, and i have 9am lectures most days, its a bit shocking ive only made it to breakfast two times in 3 weeks (though given that 1 was a reading week :P).
Well, anyway, its probably coz i sit up at 1am, doing things like posting on my blog, and reading others. Nice costume Mo.

Don't have much to report, but I haven't updated in a while, so I thought I should. I'm absolutely overrun with work atm (though obviously im not doing any atm because its 1:35am on friday night. To let people know, i will be back in St. Albans on the 25th feb for a longish weekend (its reading week then :D). Tomorrow we have the big Churchill Hall Valentines Ball, the one day of the year when our hall bar has a late licence. aaaarg, work

So it's only the second week of term, i've already taken two exams, have another one in the morning, so i should probably be revising/asleep. I also have 3 other things going on tomorrow, only one of which i have actually completed :S. My brain feels is completely overloaded atm, i've only got to a club once this term so far!! Oh, i just realised i'd forgotten to mention passing my driving test before i went back to uni, forth time lucky :D You'll do so much better next time Mike (and anyone else). Also congrats to Emma, who took fewer attempts than me!! The only slight downside from passing was that i didnt have any official id to get into bar etc with in bristol; it hasnt been a problem so far, and i should be receiving my full licence by parent-mail in a week or two. And to be honest, passing completely out-weighed that point. This blog is probably an incoherent ramble about stuff because i'm absolutely knackered and completely overrun by work, but everything should be ok by 5pm tomorrow. At least i'm not drunk, which i usually am when i write in this thing. Sorry people for not updating much, poke me to do so if you remember.

Back to Uni

Well, off back to Bristol tomorrow, looking forward to the delights of mid-sessional exams on friday :( . Well, apart from that, it should be a good term. I don't really have much to report, but i thought an update was in order anyway. What can i write about....New Year's was eventful, we all partied the night away at, um....nowhere in particular, lol ;). Christmas has extended the dvd collection on offer this term, just as well, because we've run out of Red Dwarf.

well, im back where i grew up, whether or not that is still 'home', i'm not entirely sure.
Anyway, it's good to see my family and schoold friends again. Saying that, some of them were so plastered on saturday that they might not have seen me, even if i had been talking to them!

The afternoon after the morning before

By the time i got to bed last night, i was shaking from a mixture of hunger/fatigue/alcohol. I'm supposed to be revising for a rather important test on tuesday but, for some reason, i havent really felt like it yet, maybe i will in a minute. It is also odd waking up to a breakfast of chips and sticky toffee pudding+custard after a heavy night out. I realised as i was eating said meal that id had chips when we left the club @ approx. 3am last night and again for breakfast/lunch, oh well.

Well, seeing as mike thinks i never post, i'm posting on my blog at 4:30am, having just got back from clubbing. Wednesday/Friday nights are all about Wedgie's (thats the DJ) at Baja (thats the club). He's is quite possibly the most uncool, pathetic DJ you will ever find in a club that big, but probably due to his selection of cheese music, it always ends up having an amazing atmosphere. Reading Week

This friday is my last is my last day of lectures before reading week, for which i am eternally glad, unlucky those that dont get one, but then, you're probably doing a subject which doesnt need one :P
On saturday, the Bristol Real Ale society (BRA) is having a 2pm-2am beer festival in the SU....serious amounts of drinking shall ensue :D
Well, if i regain conciousness in the next week/month, i might tell you what it was like!!
Was good to catch up with some snalbanians last weekend, though it seems some of them *cough* sionide *cough* seem to be doing decidedly less work than me :/ Only joking mate :)

Hallowe'en

Reading other peopls blogs, i decided it was probably time to update mine, given that i have internet in my room, i dont even have kiran's excuse not to update for a month or so:P
Hallowe'en was wicked- i never enjoyed it in st. albans, it was just an excuse for vandalism basically. In Bristol however, some peope really got in the spirit, and others just got royally smashed (myself included). 5:30 am is now my new record for going to bed, i wasnt even trying to go to bed late, but when the club closes at 3am, what is a man to do? :):P
If anyone is interested in going for a pint or something, i will hopefully be in st. albans from friday evening (12th november) for the weekend.

Freshers' Week

Freshers' Week rocks so far, as you can probably tell from the fact that the only time i have to post on this blog is at 3:40am :)
Absolutely knackered from getting up early/not going to bed/drinking rather a lot, rather cheaply, so all is good.
Lectures start next week but we have to register tomorrow morning, the civil engineers get a trip to the Eden Project in Cornwall on friday, should be good fun.
This is a rather sketchy/drunk resume of my freshers' week, but as most of my friends are/have experienced the same thing, i dont think i need go into much more detail.
People down my (very narrow) corridor are really cool, i'll follow mo's lead and talk about each of them some time (probably :P).
I'll post anything else about the week some other time when i remember it/less inebriated!), but in general, bristol rocks! Except my study bedroom, which is about the size of an average wardrobe, smaller than any other accomodation in the university in my block, but never mind, still good facilities in our block.

In other news, A-levels were good, i proved my parents wrong, i did do just enough work to get the grades i needed, bristol here i come.
My year seems to have done remarkably well at getting into their unis of choice, even if they did miss their grades by MILES (not looking at anyone in particular sio!! :P), and commiserations to those who just missed out.
Am i going to be the last person left in st. albans by 2nd October?

Update

Ok, I know, I haven't updated in a long time, so here is an overview of the last....fortnight or so.
Two weeks ago i went on a family holiday to Kernow (thats cornish for Cornwall) with the general aim of going surfing, unfortunately the weather was miserable and the sea was as flat as a millpond. Fortunately, however, we went prepared with frizbees etc. in case of an absense of surf. So it ended up being a good week anyway, and i managed to get one surf :D
Two more excellent things, firstly, we just ordered broadband, and many of you know how long ive been struggling with my family to get this, w00t. Secondly, emma's finally back from hols, hooray.
Also thanks go to Mike F, for his birthday party, a cracking success i thought, especially as everyone managed to get into the pub!

Italia

Verualm Big Band tour to Lake Garda, Italy absolutely rocked
Every on the tour as absolutely shattered, especcially 6th form, because we never got back from the pub before 2am, and never rose in the morning later that 8 :S
Also on that note, the Verulam Big Band CD is now available from all good verulam schools priced a very reasonable £8 (not that i'm in any way plugging people to buy it), so go buy it!

Hols

Saturday i am off touring Italy with the Jazz band, should be fun, if tiring, so i won't be able to post for a week, not that many people will notice or care:P
On another note, i'm very lucky because after only being able to see my darling girlfriend twice in a month, i've managed to see her three times in five days :D

Well, i'm finally getting round to all the things i couldnt face during exams, such as tidying up my room and going on my annual clothes shopping trip :P
Also on that list was completing the accomodation form for bristol university, choosing halls was more difficult than choosing the university, but there you go, i've chosen now, so all is good.
I also handed in my application to do more hours at work (i must be mad)
Still, im glad for the holidays, i get to do things i want to do and see people i want to see (a certain, very special person, in fact;) )

End of Exams

Finally, exams have finished with something of a marathon 3 hour AEA physics exam, what a joke that was.
That was my last ever exam at verulam and the only day i will be back there is to pick up results. Had my last jazz band concert in england as well this evening, which went well.
I forsee a lot of enebriation in the coming months, should be good :D

Exams

Well, french writing was the last exam of any relevance for me, because the AEA physics on thursday has no bearing on my university place unless i completely buggered up physics a-level.
All these exams seem to have been written specfically for me, which is nice, its just a shame there was a pneumatic drill in action down the road. that was quite bad in the middle of a french exam, but then the history class re-enacting a war on the back field, complete with drums, was probably worse :P glares at the guilty miss timpson. still, we might get special dispensation for excessive noise levels!!
Wow, don'y you just love the feeling of freedom, bring on the damned 3hr aea exam

Yes, the birthday presents are still trickling in 3 months after your's truly's birthday, and some are not yet even on the horizon, oh well, fair play, i've done that to people, so big up chuckie for his punctuality.
On another note, today marked the passing of M2 and french listening/reading, approx. 4hrs in total, followed by a shift at work in the evening, so ive had a really fun day!
Oh well, only 8 days till i have the freedom to see my wonderful girlfriend whenever i want :D
Anyhow, that's where my life is at, at the moment

following mo's lead i suppose, here is a completely pointless blog because i am bored senseless with revision, at least wimbledon is on, my favourite time of year
all i can really say is that coldplay X&Y rocks this world

well, at least we dont have to take those physics exams again!!
i really should have done more work today, but i had a headache from playing tennis in the heat of the day approx. 304K i believe :P
on with the hard slog, the end is nigh, less than 2 weeks left of exam, shame that means i will miss most of wimbledon :'(

Yes fans, revision does seem to be somewhat of a recurring theme amongst my peers and i.
Physics retake wasn't too bad, A2 exams promise to be more difficult, oh well, life goes on.

Prom lowdown

Well, i think i speak for everybody when i say that was an evening to remember!
You'll have to ask individual people for their personal reactions, but nothing untoward happened, and everyone had a rocking evening as far as i can tell.
Everyone looked amazing in their evening dress(/other) and it was a roaring success, hats of the organisers, i say.

Well, tomorrow is the leavers' ball. As such, i have been practising bow-ties, methinks i can do them now, but we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
I am not likely to post tomorrow (due to the aforementionned event).
It promises to be an evening to remember, and a hangover to forget, i suspect, especcially as i have work on sunday =/
Anyhows, i expect i shall see many of my avid readers there.

zaphod is in a happy place today after the STUNNING performance of Liverpool last night.
Also fairly relieved that i have no more exams till 10 june, w00t.
seemly along with the rest of my year, muchos looking forward to our leavers ball, dinner jackets rock! (mahendragon, you better be wearing that white suit)
Another date in the diary is 6 june, coldplay's new albums is released
what a work of literature this is, well, i did give up english two years ago, so what did you expect, anyway, i dont want to use up all my inspiration in one blog entry, so i shall leave it until i remember again
